Geo Poética del Hábitat was a freelance job for Catherine Perez’s dissertation for her master’s degree back in 2018. The printed book complimented a series of space interventions she had carried out over the years.
The book needed to tell a story with the writing and the several visual elements gathered through years of space interventions while also keeping a clean and fluid layout that the dissertation committee could read.

The Process
Initially, the design was inspired by the prominent new buildings that rose in the city while the tiny old houses start to disappear; this led to exploration with geometric shapes and lines to create texture while keeping the author's use of the color red in the interventions to symbolize that divide.

After several revisions, the design started to shift to the gap that occurs between these two worlds. A crack on concrete was a good metaphor and a graphic element related to the dissertation.

The pages and cover were laid out on adobe InDesign; they included original photographs that were digitally modified to add color overlays. The final book consisted of 241 pages and was handed over to the dissertation committee for review and later on successfully approved for the thesis defense.
